Puroresu ended and I won my first match here in GWD. I wasn’t exactly surprised. I went into that match confident in myself. I went into it knowing for sure I was going to win. I had to. If I had doubted myself there would’ve been no point in me being in the match. I’m not a doubter. Fresh off the high of my win we get the announcement of the Global Heritage Festival a three day tournament winner of it gets the Global Heritage Championship. The championship I swore I would win and be the first inaugural champion. That is my goal and I plan on accomplishing it. I have to get through Equinox first though. Newcomer here in GWD. Well, I guess I could say that about myself too. I’m a newcomer. This match though. This match vs Equinox I have to win. It’s the first step towards the title. Towards helping The Fighting Turtle Gang to make sure those pesky Dogs of War don’t get in the way and try to take over GWD.
“The Global Heritage Festival. A three day event that will crown the first Global Heritage Champion. It’s something that I look forward to having the chance to get. The first step in this company for me happened at Puroresu. I promised everyone that I would win my fatal four way. That I would win my debut and prove to the world that I belong. I did it. I did it the right way also. It’s not because I did some lowly move like the Dogs of War would do. No. I fought and won my way. It’s the same way I plan on winning this championship. My first competition is Equinox. Someone who like me is a newcomer to GWD and someone I’m not familiar with. He calls himself The HighSpot hero. He wants to be a person of the people and a superhero. That’s all well and good. You have to back a claim like that up though.”
A flame from a candle lights up as the glow from the orange flame shows the details of my face. The thick darkness that was there previously has diminished some. The glow from the flame reveals my eyes are locked straight onto the camera in front of me filming the whole thing. I put my index finger above the flame to where the top of it touches the pad of my finger. My eyes still locked on the camera as if they were frozen.
“The heat of this flame is at an almost constant temperature. If it increases or decreases it’s not by much. Which is like my confidence. It hardly ever wavers. If my confidence wanes, it isn’t by a big amount. It’s something I’ve taught myself and I’ll use it in this match. Equinox, you will probably get a couple shots on me, get me in spots where I’m wondering what I’m going to do next. You may even feel as if you have me on the ropes. At times. Here lies the problem in that though. The more someone feels like they’ve gotten one up on me. The more they feel that they have backed me into a corner the more confidence I gain because I know at some point the cockiness will come out, the part where my opponent feels as if they have won will show and from then on it’s over. I use that confidence against them, Equinox. So if there is one thing I will say it’s that don’t falter one bit. Don’t think you have me beat because I may be down, or I may be tired. That will be the mistake that will end your tournament hopes in the first round. I’m like an Alligator Snapping Turtle. You want to try to catch me? Cool go ahead. But you better not mess up trying to get rid of me. Once you do that It’s time for you to get bitten.”
I remove my finger from the flame, the room smells like charred flesh. The pad of my finger has gone black from the heat of the flame burning part of it. A smile comes across my face as I keep my eyes deadlocked on the camera while I rub my finger and thumb together, getting some of the burnt skin off.
“Moral of the story Equinox? Don’t mess up. Don’t take me lightly. The moment you think you have gotten me pinned. That you have won the match and are moving on to the second round, that is the moment that you’ve lost the match, Equinox. Just remember this, don’t be the person trying to catch the turtle. Once you try to become him you’ll lose your finger and get burnt.”
