Outside of a local bar somewhere in Chelsea
“This isn’t about titles, this isn’t about contendership? This is about proving myself. This is about showing the world who exactly Kendrick Kross is. This is the proving ground and what better way to do it than a fatal four way.”
A craft beer is sitting next to me at a metal table whose bench I am straddling; my left arm resting on the table. The smell of stale cigarettes creeps out of the bar every few minutes.
“A chance like this, the moment of being able to prove yourself doesn’t come around every day. It’s exhilarating. I’ve had introductory fights in MMA, but those are one on one and after a while it gets stale. I proved myself there, but here. Wrestling. Introductory matches and shoots, they’re different. The matches aren’t always one on one, like the one I’m in now. A fatal four way. You would never see something like that in MMA. They would never even entertain such a thing, it’s understandable though. It’s risky. Fatal four ways in wrestling are just as risky though, maybe even more so. I’ve prepared myself, I have been prepared for this all my life. It’s what I’ve wanted to do.”
I grab the beer and take a sip and set it back down where it was. My face is seemingly emotionless, inside though I’m ready and excited for my debut in GWD.
“You would think someone who is debuting in the company wouldn’t want a fatal four way, that they’d want to be able to go safe into a singles match. Not me, I love challenges. That’s exactly what this is going to be, three other competitors in the same ring as me all trying to get the win? No second chances, no eliminations, first one to be pinned or submitted gets the win. Sounds like my type of party. I had plenty of one-on-ones in MMA. I’m glad to finally have a shake up and it’s a welcomed one. That’s for sure.”
The smell of the stale cigarettes gets stronger as it goes deeper into the night and more patrons enter the bar. It’s a dive bar, but it still is one of the more lucrative ones around. The so called dive atmosphere is what attracts people to it.
“I try to study my opponents, get to know them. Not just their ring moves or manners, but their outside lives as well. What do they like to do? What do they think of people, especially me? How do they react to crowds or hecklers. You probably wonder why and it’s an easy answer. A person's outside life, no matter if they want it to or not, affects their ringside and in ring manner as well. It’s inevitable. You can’t turn off your personality, even if you do try to be someone else in the ring. Your habits, your conscious thinking. It affects you all the time, no matter what you are doing. It takes extraordinary skill to be able to switch personalities and most people can’t do it. The people who can are mainly people who have a multi-personality disorder and none of my opponents seem to have that. So that makes them easy to dissect and be able use their own strengths against them.”
The same beer is still on the table next to me, warm by now so I’m ignoring it for the time being. Random thoughts running through my head a smile creeps across my face just thinking about some of the stuff that could happen here in GWD.
“Now obviously I have a goal in this company to win titles but I can’t put the cart before the horse. Everyone has to start somewhere and for me it’s in this fatal four way. I don’t know any of my opponents which doesn’t exactly make it harder because research is there. I won’t be familiar with them in the ring though which can be a bad thing, but they aren’t familiar with me either. That unfamiliarity with me as well plays well for me. I have a plethora of moves that I can hit out of nowhere which helps to make the unfamiliarity swing into my favor. While there will be unfamiliarity, I have a feeling I will do more research than my competitors, it’s what I do. You don’t think I did so well in MMA by going in blind do you? My research is always extensive, it’s my main weapon to try and get a leg up on my opponents and it works.”
I take the now warm beer and throw it in the trash can that is sitting next to the entrance of the bar. I yell for another one of the same type and proceed to sit back at the same metal table I was before, straddling the bench again.
“A little research tidbits include Fiona, she tries to always be super happy around people, but that can be her downfall in the ring. You can’t be happy and bubbly in a ring, you’ll get your ass kicked from the US to England and back. So if she wants to be bubbly I’ll let her. I’ll go ahead and let her be as happy as she wants to be just means it’ll be easier to give her a reality check. I’ll ruin her happy mood, cause her confidence to wain and boom. One opponent down. Then comes Brady. Brady claims he can get over with any crowd. Fine. I hope he does. That’ll get his confidence up, it’ll get him going and get him to think he can do whatever. It’ll be easy to get him to burn out as he will try to put on a show for the crowd and do as many cool moves as possible. Get him burnt out and boom. Two opponents down. Then Jamal, we got him. He is like Vega a bit. He has a lot of confidence especially with the crowd. He’ll try to get into my head as well by trying to mimic me, it’s funny though because I don’t get played with. It is very hard to play mind games with me and JD as he calls himself will learn that. He can try all he wants, the harder he tries the more it’ll affect him and there goes opponent three.”
A smile creeps across my face again. Pleased with the fact that I felt like I was able to dissect them that fast. As the smile comes the waitress brings the beer I called for. I just say thanks to her and smile. I take a sip of the beer then set it on the table that the previous one had been sitting on.
“You see how easy dissecting can be, even a short one? I can still do more research on my opponents if I so desire. The fact is that I have a leg up on this match and I plan on using that to my advantage. Whatever happens in the match, happens. I do know this for sure though. I will be the one getting the 1..2..3. I can guarantee that to you. I hope everyone pays attention to this match as well. After the win I will be focused on one thing, being the first ever Global Heritage Champion”
