“A glutton for punishment” Chris says under his breath as he walks along the corridor of his Los Angeles hotel, pulling along his wheeled rucksack behind him, glancing down at the key card in his left hand and looking at the different room numbers before finally finding his room.
As the door clicks shut behind him. Chris wonders down the small hallway to see the familiar site for all travelling professional wrestlers, a bed with generic bed sheets on, wardrobe and bedside cabinets of the same design, an inexpensive television and a shoddy view from the window. The look of distain evident on his face as he places his rucksack onto the bed, taking the hooked garment cover off the handle and placing it inside the rickety wardrobe, unzipping it to check his tailored suit looks as pristine as when he collected it prior to his flight from London.
The last few trips to the United States have been social ones, watching one of the last shows done by his beloved Skyfire Wrestling, then going to Nevada to watch a promotion he’d streamed for a while in Sin City Wrestling. Each feeding his desire to return back to the squared circle. Having failed to recapture the Skyfire Championship a few months prior, Chris had to listen to medical advice and have minor surgery on his knees, pushing his body to the very limits to get back to the ring conditioning he had gotten to months prior. It has led to Chris returning to Mexico with the Guererros of Lucha promotion and signing with a brand new promotion.
Global Wrestling Division.
The whole reason he had travelled several hours to get to Los Angeles, the inaugural show for the GWD, the ‘Out for Justice’ invitational tournament to crown the GWD American Justice Champion. Being announced as the second competitor behind his old rival from Skyfire, Mark Storm, Chris Crippler looks to end the year on a winning note and progress to the next round of the tournament and make the GWD the place to be in 2018.
Sitting down on the edge of the bed and pulling his bag next to him, Chris unzips it to pull out a brown paper bag, a smirk appears on his face as he takes off his cashmere navy overcoat and takes a peek inside of the bag before looking at the camera.
“I suppose with this being my first stream for the Global Wrestling Division that I should do the ‘bog standard’ introduction, right?” Chris says mockingly.“Or shall I just assume you all know who I am, since majority of you have social media and have glanced at the website of the GWD, to gather that the old looking guy is me and my name is blah blah blah” He drifts off with the last words as he lets out a condescending sigh. “I’m pretty sure most of you who’s watched a good majority of these have gathered people doing the same old stuff, Mark will get his ‘Your Hero and Mine’ catchphrase in as only he can, I’m pretty sure everyone will have the ‘Out for Justice’ or use the word ‘justice’ to reinforce themselves to you. Our fans.” Chris snorts. “Well I’m not exactly the conventional sort of guy. I mean if I was then someone my age wouldn’t be lacing my boots up and wrestling, right? I’d use my expertise in other areas of this industry, sit in the back and give advice, stay in the training room and help those who need help, make sure that the next generation feed upon my bosom and suckle everything I have out of my teat.” He stops and looks at the camera farcically for a second with one eyebrow raised before continuing. “No, I’m not conventional at all. I’m a 53 year old man who had minor surgery not too long ago on my knees, someone who joined a new promotion at the beginning of the year and took it by storm, winning championships against people half my age and touring Mexico and Japan too. How many people can say that in the GWD? Someone who competed in a La Azteca Rumble match in GOL, eliminating over half of the competition single handily, only to lose my footing at the end and lose to one of the greatest female wrestlers of recent generations. Roxi Johnson? How many could step into Japan and defeat current reigning champions of 4CW & EWC? For someone who is 53 and to achieve that just shows you that age is but a number. But my opponents seem to see the number and not the man”
“For someone like myself who has had three decades in this industry, Britney Anders is not even that age, I have children her age as well as nieces and nephews too. I’m going to be wrestling a women who has finished training in this business not too long ago.. and SHE thinks she is smarter than me AND going to give me a makeover?” He lets out a forced cough. “..30 years and someone who has had her training wheels taken off her bike is smarter than me?” Chris places the bag on his lap and does a sarcastic slow clap. “Bringing up a post on social media, saying I don’t dictate, yet you rebutted and asked nicely upon me asking you too? Someone may need to do a lot of reading of a thesaurus to see what words actually mean, Miss Anders. Someone who goes by the mantel ‘The living doll’.” He picks up the bag and pulls out a child’s doll from it, scrunching the bag up and throwing it onto his rucksack, Chris lifts the doll up to the camera and smirks. “A mere child’s toy I picked up at the airport, a simple doll that to a child can bring to life using the world of imagination, it can be put in any scenario but most importantly it can be used over and over again. Is that your life goal, Britney? Being used, abused and in time..” Chris pulls out one of the arms from the body “..Breaks. I won’t be looking to play with the living doll, I’m looking to break it, and throw you away like the trash that you are!”
”It seems that the ultimate stumbling block is my match, with Anders beginning her journey in this industry this year, so is the other part of this three way equation in Mister Compact.” He sighs “I thought you might have been the bigger man when ‘insulting’ me with the overused ‘removing the letter R from your last name.. Standing tall with the ‘honesty’ stuff.. I really wanted to give you a hand with what you said as generally you wouldn’t have been able to reach that high up anyways.. I really shouldn’t be making short references, right, because it means stooping to your level” Chris looks smug towards the camera “You will be hearing a lot of ‘compact’ size jokes throughout your career and one day you’ll be tall enough to be taken seriously! Do you see how making a predictable reference is seen now, Chris? You may be pint sized but I belittled you into being a shot glass punisher through words!” He composes himself before continuing. “I am a trainer and it looks like I am going to train both of you into seeing age means nothing, that dolls break and size does matter, it’s a shame that it’ll cost you both the opportunity of being an inaugural champion here in GWD. But I will advance in this tournament and become the Non-American Justice Champion!” Chris smirks as he mimes a title belt around his waist. “Ironic really, a British man holding a title with the word American in it, it wouldn’t be the first time the British ruled over America and it won’t be the last!”
Chris glares deep into the camera for a moment before standing up and heads over to look out of the window, not much of a view as predicted, but he won’t be spending much time in this room as a flight is booked pretty much straight after the event.
